FIELD NOTE ·
Leather corners and edges: a photo checklist
Document an everyday bag with enough context to understand where wear actually sits.
Begin with the shape
Photograph the whole bag from front, back and side without filling it in a way that hides its normal shape. Keep the straps visible. Include the base and the opening so close-ups have a clear location. A single angled photograph can make different kinds of wear difficult to compare.
Follow the stress points
Record the corners, handles, strap attachments, edge finish and closure. Make one close photograph of each relevant area and another showing its place on the bag. Distinguish a visible crease from a known repair in your caption. Ask about changes you cannot identify from photographs.
Avoid a universal care recipe
Do not apply a product based only on a photograph or a general description of leather. Finishes and previous treatments can differ. Follow the instructions available for the particular piece, and seek suitable professional advice when uncertain. Record any treatment you know was used in your own archive.
