Ring sizing: what to know before searching for a piece
Size systems, inside diameter and band width: the details that make a request more useful.

Name the sizing system
A request for “size 9” is ambiguous without a sizing system. Specify US sizing, your local system or the inside diameter in millimetres. If your number comes from a seller’s chart, keep a link or a copy of that chart.
Measure the inside
Use a ring that fits comfortably on the intended finger. Measure its inside diameter without including the walls, preferably with callipers. A ruler gives only an approximate reading. Trying measuring rings with a jeweller is useful before a significant purchase.
Consider the width
A wide band may feel tighter than a narrow band with the same nominal size. Ask for the band width and whether a fitting is possible. There is no single size adjustment that works for every ring and every hand.
Write a precise request
Include the model or a reference photo, sizing system, size, acceptable condition and budget. Do not assume that a ring can be resized without discussing its construction and pattern with an appropriate professional first.
